Tips
How To Play

Guess the 4-digit PIN. Each digit you submit lights up: green if it's the right digit in the right position, yellow if it's in the PIN but wrong position, grey if it's not in the PIN.

Strategy

Open with two distinct digits like 1234 or 0123 — maximises information per guess.

Yellow ≠ random. A yellow tells you the digit IS in the PIN, just elsewhere — that's almost as useful as a green.

Beware repeated digits. The PIN may contain duplicates (e.g. 1191). A grey on one position doesn't rule the digit out elsewhere.

What's The PIN is a free daily 4-digit number puzzle. A new PIN is set every day at midnight UTC. Enter any 4-digit guess and the digits color up: green means correct digit in the right position, yellow means correct digit in the wrong position, grey means not in the PIN. Ten guesses to crack it. The same PIN is served to every player worldwide.

The game is structurally Mastermind — the classic code-breaking logic game — played against a daily fixed target. The hint system gives enough information to crack most PINs methodically rather than randomly. Use each guess to eliminate digit positions, not just digits. Repeated digits work the Wordle way: guess 1191 when the PIN is 1234 and only the first 1 lights green; the others go grey.

The latest update adds an endless mode that runs a random 4-digit PIN on loop for as long as you want, fifteen achievements tracked persistently across sessions, an all-time top-100 leaderboard showing each player's best crack and total lifetime cracks, and a live daily timer that starts on your first guess. Speed achievements include Speed Demon (under 60 seconds), Lightning (under 30), and Blink (under 15) — the last of which is the hardest unlockable in the game.

No signup. No download. Ad-free during gameplay. The game auto-saves to your browser after every guess — close the tab and your progress is exactly where you left it. Player names go up to 12 characters now, with a profanity filter on both ends. Free in any modern browser, desktop or mobile.

How to Play

Desktop Type digits on your keyboard. Press Enter to submit, Backspace to clear.
Mobile Tap the on-screen keypad. ENTER submits, CLEAR resets the row.

Questions

How do I play What's The PIN?
Enter a 4-digit guess. Each digit is color-coded after you submit — green means correct digit in the correct position, yellow means correct digit in the wrong position, grey means that digit is not in the PIN. Use the feedback to narrow down the code. You have ten guesses. The daily timer starts on your first guess and freezes when you crack it or run out. The same PIN is served to every player worldwide and resets at 00:00 UTC.
Is there more than one puzzle per day?
The daily PIN resets every day at midnight UTC — one shot at it per day. Endless Mode runs a random 4-digit PIN on loop for as long as you want — unlimited rounds, same color-coded feedback as daily. A Hard variant (Mastermind-style hints only, no color clues) is on the menu marked Coming Soon.
What are the speed achievements?
The daily timer starts on your first guess and records how long it takes to crack the PIN. Speed Demon unlocks if you crack it in under 60 seconds. Lightning unlocks under 30 seconds. Blink — the hardest speed achievement — requires cracking the daily PIN in under 15 seconds, which means typing your first guess fast, reading the hints fast, and committing the second guess with conviction. The timer persists across reloads and freezes on crack or fail. There is no penalty for slow play.
Do I need to sign up?
No. No signup, no account, no email. Choose a name up to 12 characters when you first play — letters, numbers, and underscores are allowed, profanity is filtered on both client and server. Your name appears on the leaderboard. Achievements, streak, lifetime stats, and in-progress daily session all save to your browser automatically via localStorage. Nothing leaves your device without your action.
How does the leaderboard work?
There are two views accessible from the Stats menu item. Today's Crackers shows a per-attempt breakdown of how today's daily PIN was solved by all players — ranked by fewest guesses, tie-broken by who cracked it earliest in the day. All-Time Leaders is a top-100 board aggregated across every day since launch. Each player appears once with their best crack (fewest guesses they've ever needed), total lifetime cracks, and the date they hit their best. Multi-crack rows are merged so the board reflects skill rather than session volume.
